Dis- Not Paritas- Equal. ~ Latin
Dramatic beginning right?
I'll be addressing the myth of "your truth, my truth."
I will high-key reference from philosophy.
I almost hopped on the woke wave.
The wave of agreeing to the possibility of "your truth, my truth" being feasible.
Logically, it does not make sense that truth is subjective.
Now how do I know that?
Let's take some steps back and define what truth means.
The conformity of the mind to reality. ~Truth
Many times I pondered what this really meant.
The idea that something cannot be and be, simultaneously.
What does it really mean in the context of what truth is though?
One cannot hold 'a' truth and deny another person's truth at the same time.
That means the other person can also do the same, rightfully so--
But that would not be fair now, would it?
It starkly contradicts the whole idea of "your truth, my truth."
Do you not think it is selfish to think one's worldview is more prime than another?
How many times have we shut someone down because their "truth" does not match ours?
How many times have we denied the very nature of things because it does not conform to the narrative? How many?
This ideology is dangerous, self-centered, and backward.
We live in a world where rights are enjoyed more than ever—
Amended, debated upon, and improved. Well, in some cases...
This narrative being pushed brings about dissonance.
It leaves almost no room for understanding, consideration of all possibilities, circumstances, learning something new, name it.
It rids us of a chance to acquire something novel from someone else.
Yet, when it comes to oneself, being heard, understood, and listened to is key.
Why is it different when it gets to another person?
Do they not deserve the same respect and treatment as you?
Are they unequal because they house a different "truth?"
Many have fallen victim to not speaking up because their "truth" does not match the majority.
It is a pity that we still manage to divide the world in the weirdest ways.
Even at the epitome of civilization, knowledge, we still clutch onto painful ways.
Maybe we have indigestion from too much information to the point of difficulty.
Maybe we do not know how to siphon what is good and bad, true and untrue, and wait for someone else to do it for us.
Mainstream media scares me but those who heavily consume it like gospel truth scare me more.
It narrows the possibilities of having a civil discussion and suddenly, you are 'canceled.'
Dismissed.
Looked down upon.
It was very frustrating to learn that you become a pariah in a church of so many "truths".
This was put to ease—
Truth is something that does not need to be defended.
Truth is bitter-sweet depending on which side you are on; giving or receiving.
Truth is good, beautiful, just, objective, and real.
I may still not know what that looks like in an unfair world where it does not seem to prevail.
I may not know what it feels like but I am willing to try and champion this idea.
Are you?
The truth is like a lion; you do not have to defend it. Let it loose; it will defend itself. ~ Augustine of Hippo.
